POTUS on marriage equality

The following passage from the Supreme Court ruling went viral Friday morning following the announcement:
“No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family. In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than once they were. As some of the petitioners in these cases demonstrate, marriage embodies a love that may endure even past death. It would misunderstand these men and women to say they disrespect the idea of marriage. Their pleas is that they do respect it, respect it so deeply that they seek to find its fulfillment for themselves. Their hope is not to be condemned to live in loneliness, excluded from one of civilization’s oldest institutions. The Constitution grants them that right.
Later in the day, President Obama took us to church, turning tragedy into amazing grace.

Another successful caucus! with strawberries

June 14, 2015

Caucus RoomFifteen Boxford Democrats caucused at the Boxford Community Center on Saturday afternoon, June 13, to elect the town’s delegation to the Massachusetts Democratic Party’s September convention in Springfield.

The caucus elected Mark Beckett of Silverbrook Road, Ruthann Budrewicz of Olde Farms Road and Terri Teleen of Main Street as delegates and Ken Thompson of Herrick Road, Kerry Stickney and Judi Stickney of Lawrence Road as alternate delegates. In addition, the committee’s chair, Marianne Rutter of King John Drive, will serve as an ex officio delegate.

The newly-elected Boxford delegation then voted Mark Beckett the fourth annual Franklin Pierce Pomroy Honorary Delegate, honoring the memory of deceased committee member Frank Pomroy of Mill Run Road. Pomroy, a decorated veteran of World War II, had been an active member of the committee and an enthusiastic member of its delegation for several years until his death in June, 2012.

The convention will be held on Saturday, September 19, at the MassMutual Center in Springfield.

After the caucus, the committee held a brief business meeting and elected three new members to its ranks.  At the post-caucus social hour, committee members enjoyed a summertime treat — strawberry shortcake.

The Committee’s next meeting will be on Thursday evening, October 19, at 7:30 pm at the Community Center. All Democrats are welcome.
